What we do

The Institution of Engineers Somalia (IES), established in 2024, serves as the professional body representing engineers across all disciplines in Somalia. Created by a dedicated group of Somali engineers, IES unites professionals from various fields including Civil, Architectural, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical, Geological, Petroleum, Computer, Telecommunications, Agricultural, Chemical, Aerospace, Biomedical, and Food Engineering under one institution committed to advancing national development and engineering excellence.

The founders of IES recognized the critical need for a unified institution to promote networking and community awareness, advance engineering education and knowledge sharing, foster research and innovation, represent the engineering community, and uphold ethics and professional conduct. They envisioned an institution that would empower engineers to address Somalia’s unique challenges. Modeled after successful institutions, such as The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES); The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM); The Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK); and Institution of Engineers Tanzania (IET), IES was designed to become a trusted and respected body supporting Somali engineers in their pursuit of impactful, sustainable solutions
